When I was 14-years-old, I discovered astrology. I was hooked from that moment on. At the time, I was deeply enmeshed into the adolescent experience, complete with its struggle for self-acceptance, belonging and the development of a personal identity; astrology helped me fully accept others and, more importantly, myself. Furthermore, it gave me insight into my personality and enabled me to see the ways in which we are all connected to a bigger picture. In that, it reinforced my belief in a higher power—one with compassion and love enough to give us tools to make sense of ourselves and the Universe. Though astrology was a passion, it was not something I initially wanted to pursue as a career. While in college at the University of Missouri, I attended courses at a metaphysical institute and then took online classes. I also studied with teachers to develop my intuitive gifts. My teachers immediately recognized a gift within me, and they encouraged me to offer readings for clients. I began giving intuitive astrology readings more than ten years ago, first for friends and family, and then for clients. My stereotypes about the practice of astrology were shattered, and I realized that astrology is for the everyday person. It can help people individually and globally. It is an amazing tool and a gift. I love astrology because it empowers people. It helps identify personal strengths and offers advice about how to maximize optimal times. It charts out life cycles so that we can be prepared. I spent years also learning various healing modalities as well and currently practice Reiki and Pranic Healing. As a healer, I have worked with clients who have had significant health issues, including cancer, fibromyalgia, arthritis, depression and more. My Background My professional background includes more than the practice of astrology. I am also a published writer, having had a successful career in marketing, writing and film/video production. I have written published articles and poetry, marketing copy, video scripts and more. In 2002, I authored a book entitled Stories of Hope chronicling the lives of 13 formerly incarcerated women. I have held various marketing roles at both nonprofit and corporate environments since my relocation to Nashville in 2002, and I continue to offer freelance writing and production management services to clients. In 2007, I decided to start a full-time practice in astrological counseling. I offer more of an intuitive interpretation of the elements in place. Balencia A year ago, I met Thomas Parsons, while studying for my AFA certification exam. He and I formed a fast friendship. We are both Libras with the same moon sign. Our discussions about astrology inspired the idea for Balencia. Balencia is the Italian word for Libra. Libras are the sign of partnership, balance and harmony. We offer perfectly balanced male and female astrological perspectives to help others. Thomas Parsons brings more of a scientific, mathematical and left-brained approach to astrology, while I offer a right-brained, intuitive perspective. In that, we perfectly compliment each other in our writing and research. Balencia horoscopes are just the beginning. We have plans for a call-in radio program and have begun discussing the possibility of a television show. Stay tuned to see what happens next for the Balencia team. |
